Our Signature Leathers

Italian Leather Being Tanned

General characteristics of our Signature Italian Leathers

  • BOSCA signature leathers are all tanned in Italy in a small town between Florence and Pisa, not far from the Arno river.
  • BOSCA leathers are full grain leathers.
  • Our rawhides are responsibly sourced from French farms which are primarily small-scale family run businesses. The care, diet, and ambience that these herds experience is incomparably supportive.
  • Our signature leathers are Certified Tuscan (Italian) vegetable tanned leather.

  • Our tannery is certified by the Consorzio Vera Pelle Italiana Conciata al Vegetale, is Silver Rated by LWG, and is sustainability audited by ICEC.
  • The tannery is part of a cooperative water purification system to ensure that all effluent meets the highest European standards for minimum bio-eco impact.
  • Our tannery uses primarily organic vegetable extracts and vegetable and animal oils.
  • Tannins are derived from plants such as Chestnut, Oak, and Mimosa. These different compounds create leathers with different characteristics.  We use Chestnut tannins.

  • Being genuine vegetable-tanned signatures leathers will all develop a beautiful patina over time. Old Leather may become less shiny over time whereas Dolce, Washed, and Italo may become shinier over time.
  • Our signature leathers are hand stained. This means that the color is applied by hand to each hide, giving each cut from each hide a unique coloration.

  • Our hand-stained leathers are inspected and sorted 4 times in the manufacturing process. Many skins are pulled out as not suitable for our highly natural and revealing finishing techniques.
